You are in the village of Farndon on the Enghish/ Welsh border, overlooking the River Dee, and you are about to cross the River by the Old Dee Bridge, in front is the Tower of St Chads Church Holt.

As we cross. The River is winding it's way to the sea, to the right is the City of Chester, to the left Bangor on Dee.The River is used for Boating and Fishing, and there are some great walks along it's banks.
.......
The River looks so calm today a warm sunny day, as we glance downstream a boat can be seen in the distance, no doubt collecting supply's for the Holiday homes that are dotted along the river bank.
..
Now we have crossed the Bridge and we enter the Village of Holt, The Gateway to Wales.

...................................
.....................................
There is an incline for about 200yds as you enter Holt, but then on the left we see the long drive, theTower, and main door to St Chads, on our right is the Church Green, this piece of open land is provided for children & parents to enjoy the Swings etc.
.............
Our journey now leads us to the Centre of the Village following the road up Church St and the sharp right hand bend to the Cross.

But before we reach the Cross we notice a sign pointing to the Castle, a narrow lane leads you to an interesting old building. The Old Holt Endowed School & School House built in 1875, this building is only just visible from the road, it is closed as a School but as been converted into 4 Houses, a New School as been built in another part of Holt.
..
.
The narrow lane leading past the Old School is a public footpath down to the River bank and the Castle grounds, In it's heyday Holt Castle was a very impressive building, in the Holt of Yesteryear pages I will show you how it looked in it's days of splender.
...
After our visit to the Castle we have a choice,we can carry on along the River bank for a stroll, or turn back and head for the Village Centre known as THE CROSS. We will opt for the latter and go for some refreshments, we have 4 Pubs, all serving food, a Coffee Shop, and the local Chippy, or you can sit outside on the Cross and enjoy your refreshments, and chat with the locals.
Holt Cross.
We can head back to the Church now and go inside and look at the Flower arrangments from the past Flower Festivals.
